Tompkins Drive Art Walk

Glendale Elementary School 1201 Tompkins Dr., Madison, Wisconsin 53716
press release: Why put in a plain old sidewalk when you can make it more meaningful? The Glendale neighborhood took the initiative to beautify the environment when Tompkins Road was repaved this summer. The group wrote a grant and instead of installing a plain new sidewalk they stamped quotes from naturalists like Aldo Leopold, Ralph Waldo Emerson and more, into the sidewalk. The sidewalk is in front of Glendale Elementary School and serves as an inspiration.
The Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) Afterschool participants at Glendale Elementary School and the Glendale Neighborhood Association worked together on the sidewalk project and are holding Tompkins Drive Art Walk on Friday, October 30, 4-6:30 pm. The event is a neighborhood celebration of the re-opening of Tompkins Drive and the newly decorated sidewalks. The sidewalk art was funded by a City of Madison Place Making Grant.
In addition to the sidewalk art, neighbors can enjoy chalk art created by MSCR Glendale Afterschool Program participants. Chalk will be available for those who want to create their own art. Doug the Juggler, Gary and Joan from The Wells Division, and bagpipers will also provide music and entertainment.
Food trucks will have food for sale near Unity Church, 601 Tompkins (please bring a blanket to eat picnic style). Glendale neighbors are encouraged to join the celebration. Please call 204-2391 for more information.
