press release:
Tunes at Monona Terrace, the indoor fall Wednesday night concert series will be coming to an end this November after 19 years of great performances by mostly local bands. The series began under the direction of prominent Madisonians, Jeff Bartell and the late George Nelson, and was initially created to provide public access opportunities to the then new Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center. The series has featured over 130 separate musical acts and served more than 50,000 attendees over the past 19 years.
In recent years, public interest in the Tunes series has decreased. Monona Terrace will focus its efforts on the approximately 100 other events, mostly free, presented to serve the public each year including the popular Thursday night, outdoor Concerts on the Rooftop series in the summer. The current season schedule of events can be found at http://communityevents.mononaterrace.com.
The final fall 2016 Tunes season will include performances on October 5 with Little Vito & the Torpedoes and November 9 with an Elvis Tribute by Tony Rocker & the Comeback Special. The final concert on November 30 will feature the band that performed the inaugural Tunes concert in 1997, Ladies Must Swing. Attached images courtesy of Monona Terrace.
