The Travelin' McCourys
Bluegrass nirvana is reached Wednesday night as Sessions at McPike Park pairs what is arguably the world’s most potent bluegrass unit, The Travelin’ McCourys, with two of Madison’s most talented country/bluegrass performers, Beth Kille and Sortin’ the Mail. The McCoury brothers, Rob and Ronnie, tour with their fellow travelers when they’re not performing with their father, Del McCoury, who is one of the last living members of Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys. Sortin’ the Mail do two sets between the McCourys over in the Sessions tent and will be celebrating the release of their shiny new album, Ringin’ the Doorbell.
press release: There aren't many families that are at the most prestigious level of a musical genre. However when you think Bluegrass the family of Del McCoury immediately comes to mind. Two of Del's sons sp.earhead the sensational Travelin' McCourys. "The McCoury brothers- Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) - were born into the bluegrass tradition. Talk about a source abundant and pure: their father, Del, is among the most influential and successful musicians in the history of the genre. Years on the road with Dad in the Del McCoury Band honed their knife-edge chops, and encouraged the duo to imagine how traditional bluegrass could cut innovative pathways into 21st century music." This band is at the top of its game and are sensational every night that they climb onto the stage.
Beth Kille and her band will represent the home town and shine as always. Wonderful food and drink make for a perfect evening.
