media release: The Fall 2024 edition of the UW Blue Note Ensemble performs music that pianist/composer Herbie Hancock recorded as a bandleader in the 1960s, including hits such as "Watermelon Man" and "Cantaloupe Island" as well as lesser-known master pieces from Taking Off, My Point of View, Empyrean Isles, Maiden Voyage, and Speak Like a Child.
The sextet features Joe Kaiser, trumpet; Calvin Carl (tenor saxophone), Rex Tabachnick (tenor saxophone), Ahillan Mani (piano), Ethan Fendrick (bass), and Nolan Tomesh (drums); and the group is directed by Prof. Johannes Wallmann.
