press release: Join Tandem Press for the third annual Fall Friday Jazz Series featuring jazz students from the UW-Madison Mead Witter School of Music Jazz Program under the leadership of Johannes Wallman, the John and Carolyn Peterson Chair in Jazz Studies. The 2016 series continues Feb. 3, from 5 – 7pm, with the Contemporary Jazz Ensemble (Eric Siereveld). Tours of Tandem Press will take place prior to the concerts and during the intermissions. Refreshments will be served. Free admission and parking available for all concerts.
There will be six concerts in the series featuring the following jazz student groups, led by Johannes Wallman, John Schaffer, and Les Thimmig. Wallmann, the John and Carolyn Peterson Chair in Jazz Studies joined the UW-Madison Mead Witter School of Music as the director of Jazz Studies in the fall of 2012. A veteran of the New York and San Francisco Bay Area jazz scenes, he has performed extensively as a bandleader and as a sideman in local, national, and international venues. DownBeat Magazine recently named his 5th CD release The Town Musicians (2015) an editor’s pick, calling it “a stunning collage of jazz styles and genres.”
