Research Universities: Perception and Policy
media release: America’s leading research universities dominate the global rankings and have played a critical role in the country’s economic development, national defense, and social mobility dating back to World War II. Federal government investment in students and research and development, was a significant driver of this global preeminence and national impact. But the attitude toward universities has changed under the Trump administration, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for higher education. What is the current attitude of the American public toward higher education and how might that be affecting federal policy proposals? Historically, what has been the relationship between the federal government and universities, and why is it important? And finally, what could this all mean for UW-Madison?
Join the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association’s Mike Knetter on Tuesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. CDT. This UW Now livestream will feature a live discussion with UW experts who will answer these questions and offer their insights on the relationship between the federal government and higher education.
