media release: The No. 23 Wisconsin women's soccer team triumphed 1-0 over the UIC Flames on Aug. 17 in their first road test of the season.
First Half
Wisconsin controlled the opening 45 minutes, holding advantages in shots (8-2), shots on goal (3-2) and corners (1-0). Despite several strong offensive possessions, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Second Half
The Badgers continued their offensive pressure, and in the 60th minute, Anya Gulbrandsen found the back of the net off an assist from Brooke Allen, giving Wisconsin a 1-0 lead.
Wisconsin's defense held strong for the remainder of the match, limiting UIC to just two corner kicks. Goalkeeper Drew Stover recorded her first shutout of the season.
The Badgers outshot the Flames 13-2 overall, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal and a 6-2 advantage in corners.
The Badgers will look to stay perfect when they host Central Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at McClimon Soccer Complex.
