Join us for a special performance of Carnatic music, the traditional classical music of southern India that dates back over 2,500 years. Vocalist Vanitha Suresh will perform examples of Carnatic music and discuss the historical and cultural significance of the artform while accompanied by Nanjundamurthy Venkatasubbu on the Mrdangam (double-headed percussion), and Sanjay Suresh on the violin. Light refreshments will be provided by Swagat Indian Restaurant in Madison.
Vanitha Suresh is an accomplished musician, teacher and promoter specializing in Carnatic music. She founded the Arohana School of Music, an affiliate of IFCM-USA (International Foundation of Carnatic Music) and the first Indian Carnatic Musician to receive the Wisconsin Arts Board apprenticeship grant for the years 2013, 2014 & 2015. She lives and teaches in Middleton.
