Voces de la Frontera Forum
Centro Hispano 810 W. Badger Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53713
press release: As part of the campaign to restore driver licenses and state ID cards for all Wisconsinites, Voces de la Frontera is organizing a statewide Day Without Latinxs & Immigrants general strike and mobilization on the Capitol in Madison on Wednesday, May 1. This means no work, no school, and no shopping.
Join us at a series of community forums we are hosting throughout the state starting Friday, April 5, to escalate to May 1. To date, we have scheduled forums in Green Bay, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Madison, and Racine. Last month, we held a lobby day at the Capitol. Over 1,000 of our members and supporters visited the office of every legislator. We got a lot of great responses—we know that many legislators from both parties understand that restoring access to driver licenses and state IDs for immigrants and low-income people will improve our economy, strengthen public safety, and keep families together.
While there is broad support for restoring driver licenses, we know that in order to make a political breakthrough and keep driver licenses in the final budget, we must show our strength in numbers and the power of our economic contributions. This means that we have to escalate our fight, just like we did in 2016 when we defeated anti-sanctuary legislation, and just like we did in 2017 when we defeated Sheriff Clarke and 287g.
That’s why we’re holding a series of community forums across Wisconsin starting this Friday. Click on the links to RSVP and share the events on Facebook! We have 27 days. ¡Unidxs venceremos!
