Women on Topic
DreamBank 821 E. Washington Ave., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
press release: Join the Wisconsin Women's Network for the next WWN "Women on Topic" Brown Bag at Noon on Monday, November 2, 2015. The November topic is "The Impact of Homelessness on Women & Children" and will be led by attorney and Dane County Board Supervisor Heidi Wegleitner.
Unique factors are at play for women and children who are homeless. Not only are many of the causes specific to gender and race - domestic violence, poverty, wage inequality, lack of affordable housing - so too is the experience. The probability of violence, sexual assault, inadequate physical and mental health care, and decreased life expectancy all increase compared to housed women. Heidi will discuss these factors, as well as the implications of policy and systems change.

Heidi Wegleitner is an attorney providing representation to low income clients in housing matters, with a focus on eviction defense and obtaining and maintaining subsidized housing benefits. In addition, she serves as the District 2 Supervisor on the Dane County Board, where she often takes a leadership role on housing and homelessness policy issues.
The "Women on Topic" Brown Bag Series offers members and the public a unique opportunity to hear the timely perspective of women leaders from a variety of fields as we promote the advancement of women and girls in Wisconsin and determine how we can work together to improve women’s lives.
The November Brown Bag will take place on November 2 at Noon at the DreamBank, 1 N. Pinckney Street, Madison. All lunchtime “Women on Topic” Brown Bag discussions are free to WWN members (non-members wishing to attend are encouraged to support the series by making a small donation at the door or by becoming members at special Brown Bag rates).
