There are no more sincere musicians in Madison than the members of this band, which will release a new album this weekend called Sincerely. Woodrow is a whirlwind of positivity, and the new album brims with squeaky clean but deceptively complex and beautiful pop rock songs. The music and the live act are born from behind the keyboard and its pilot, songwriter Connor Brennan. The album has been hotly anticipated by fans, and the band could make big bucks from what will likely be a large crowd at the release. Instead, the show will benefit Share the Health: Free Women’s Health Clinic. With LASKA, Man Called Noon, Claxy.
$12 ($10 adv.).
press release: Madison indie rock band Woodrow will be releasing their debut full-length album Sincerely on Saturday May 25, at High Noon Saloon. Joining them are Eau Claire folk heroes LASKA, Chicago indie rock band Man Called Noon, and upcoming local songwriter Claxy. Tickets are $10 ADV//$12 at the door, $50 for VIP balcony seats (includes two drink tickets and a copy of Sincerely), and all proceeds benefit Share the Health. Doors 7:30pm, Music 8:30pm.
Share the Health is an entirely volunteer-run women’s health clinic dedicated to caring for the under-served women in Dane County. Close friend of Woodrow Taylor-Paige Stewart volunteers for this organization, so the band was quick to jump on board when she approached them about helping to raise funds that could create direct and positive impacts in the community.
Woodrow was formed in late 2016 by Connor Brennan, a UW-Madison grad student with a pocketful of piano pop songs ready to be brought to life. The band has self-released three studio EPs and were finalists in 105.5 Triple M’s 2018 songwriting contest. Voted Isthmus Best New Band 2017, Woodrow’s curious blend of musical backgrounds and inspirations culminates in their debut full-length album Sincerely.
Sincerely itself is an album and a love letter. Connor’s 2015 transition from undergrad in Illinois to grad school in Wisconsin was not a smooth one; a series of family tragedies, personal failures, and a breakup left him drowning. A friend came along and sang with him. She made him laugh. She showed him he could be happy again. It ended, short and bittersweet, but not before Connor started writing. Sincerely is the story of that relationship from beginning to end, a letter scribbled in the margins of notebooks and exams, a sincere thank you and a goodbye.
"Wrong Wrong Right" by Woodrow
This album was born in the gorgeous snowy retreat of Pine Hollow Studio in Eau Claire. With the help of producer Evan Middlesworth, the members of Woodrow spent two weeks crafting and recording these songs, sipping potentially unhealthy amounts of locally roasted coffee while breathing new life into their arrangements. Grammy-nominated sound engineer Jeff Lipton of Peerless Mastering (Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, Wilco) finished the process with a round of studio-quality mastering.
Woodrow is thrilled to release their full-length album in a way that can directly benefit the local community. Come celebrate a night of music and love with Woodrow as they share the stage with some of their own favorite local acts and send their album off into the world.
