Woodrow
The local indie pop band says goodbye with one last show. The group, founded by the departing Connor Brennan, creates hard-hitting, piano-forward pop, laden with sincere emotion. On their most recent release, “Naked Love,” the five-piece band lays down honeyed harmonies on top of inventive production, sneaking in vocal modulation and some light synth noodling. With Raine Stern, Disaster Passport.
press release: Doors 7pm ~ MUSIC 8PM. TICKETS $10.
WOODROW is an indie pop group from Madison. In the fall of 2015, four friends got together, put on a bunch of emo-era makeup, and recorded a cover of My Chemical Romance’s Helena.
Little did we know, this was the beginning of an important chapter in our lives.
In the four years that we have been a band, we have grown as musicians and performers, made so many new friends through the (incredible) Madison music community, recorded three EPs and a full-length, won Best New Band through the Isthmus and Best Alternative Performer at the MAMAs, and played more than a few dream-gigs.
It pains us to say, but this chapter will be coming to a close, at least for now.
This September, Connor will be starting his next chapter in Nashville, TN, as a songwriter and as the regional manager for the brand-new Nashville branch of Piano Fondue. Connor founded Woodrow, he is responsible for writing the core of all of our songs, and he has been our fearless leader throughout our whole journey. After thinking long and hard about it, we’ve decided that we can’t keep this project alive without him. These songs, sung by someone else, could never be Woodrow.
We couldn't have done what we have without the help and support of so many people. I’d like to thank all of the roommates who had to endure our ‘creative process’, the Acker brothers for hosting us this past year, the many music venues of Madison for all being so easy to work with, Evan Middlesworth for his endless guidance, our significant others for being able to spare us for countless gigs and rehearsals, our colleagues for making us feel famous, The Isthmus for believing in us, 105.5 Triple M, The North Code, Labrador, Chloe Louise, and Sam Ness. Of course, we'd like to thank past Woodrow members, as well. This is not an exhaustive list. We have felt welcomed and supported every step of the way.
Keep an eye out for updates though, new projects are in the works!
Raine Stern is an incredibly talented electric guitar player, songwriter, composer, and all around badass. She has been making waves in the Madison area since she was like 16 and she has only gotten better since.
