press release: The Verona Public Library will host the exhibition World War I and America from January 3 through January 23. It’s been 100 years since our nation was drawn into World War I in 1917. This exhibition will mark the centennial anniversary with a display of documents, images, and interpretive texts prepared by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. A World War I travel trunk of reproduced artifacts from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum will also be on display at the library for the duration of the exhibition.
This exhibition is part of World War I and America, a two-year national initiative of The Library of America presented in partnership with The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, and other organizations, with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Learn about the personal impact of World War I through readings and a discussion at the Verona Public Library on Thursday, January 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It’s been 100 years since our nation was drawn into World War I in 1917. Selected readings from World War I and America: Told by the Americans Who Lived It will explore the transformative impact of the First World War by sharing insights into the writings of Americans who experienced it firsthand. Jonathan Pollack, Ph.D., history professor at Madison College, will lead the discussion. Local community members will deliver the readings aloud.
