Writers are taught early on to “write what you know,” but writing beyond what we know encourages us to discover new insights and ways of thinking about world. In this workshop, we’ll discuss and write our own poems based on current events, facts, history, and in the voices of other people. By the end of this workshop, each writer will have a better understanding of how to “write what you don’t know” and walk away with a few new drafts of poems. Angela Voras-Hills earned her MFA at UMass-Boston and was a fellow at the Writers' Room of Boston. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Kenyon Review Online, Best New Poets, Memorious, & Hayden's Ferry Review, among other journals and anthologies. She has received awards from the Sustainable Arts Foundation and the Key West Literary Seminar. She is currently working with a group of writers to co-found a literary arts center in Madison--The Watershed: A Place for Writers. Call 266-6300 to register until 9/9.
