media release: Youth Lagoon is playing High Noon on Tue. Sept. 12. His live show is incredible. The Big Takeover covered his set at Pitchfork Music Festival (as did many others) and said Youth Lagoon "adeptly skirted the line between pop music and folk songs so sensitive it made one wonder about the collective shared experience of something that felt so intimate [it] made strangers feel connected."
Earlier this year, Youth Lagoon released Heaven is a Junkyard, which is one of the best indie rock records of 2023. As Pitchfork says in their Best New Music review, "Trevor Powers has long shown a penchant for reinvention, but his first album as Youth Lagoon in eight years feels like a homecoming; he’s never sounded so confident or at peace with himself.” Heaven Is a Junkyard is mutant Americana in a world of love, drugs, storytelling, and miracles—held together by Powers’ voice and an upright piano. In Powers’ own words, “Heaven Is a Junkyard is about all of us. It’s stories of brothers leaving for war, drunk fathers learning to hug, mothers falling in love, neighbors stealing mail, cowboys doing drugs, friends skipping school, me crying in the bathtub, dogs catching rabbits, and children playing in tall grass.”
