press release:
The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Taliesin Fellowship will host a reception for the Yueh-mei Cheng 2015 Touring Solo Exhibition. Join us August 21, at 5:30 pm in Mr. Wright’s Studio at Taliesin to receive this internationally known artist and long-time friend of Taliesin.
Yueh-mei Cheng’s beautiful and unique new Ink Brush Painting art will be exhibited in Mr. Wright's Studio at Taliesin and viewed only by people touring through Taliesin until the end of this month (Exhibition date: August 11 to August 31, 2015).
Widely recognized, Yueh-mei Cheng teaches and lectures internationally. Currently Cheng is a visiting professor at Tunghai University in Taiwan, and she has been tenured professor taught in Michigan for more than a decade. Cheng’s passion for education is profound.
Long associated with Taliesin and the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, Yueh-mei has generously offered to make a significant selection of her art pieces in this exhibition available for sale, with the proceeds benefiting the School's Campaign for Independence.
"These paintings are sophisticated and complexly layered compositions accomplished with an economy of brush strokes that is outstanding. Cheng’s introduction of bright flat graphic forms create the kind of spatial push-pull reminiscent of early abstract expressionists, while her calligraphic marks evoke expressive western painting traditions as well. Her compositions are almost musical, depicting the spirit and feeling of a place from multiple perspectives rather than trying to imitate a more representational space. Yueh-mei Cheng’s abstractions express a powerful inner depth of spirit through her responses to the natural world. Her paintings quietly ask the viewer’s spirit to soar along with her, moving through space and time in a way that calls for reflection upon the nature of self and being in a changing world." These words from Helen Klebesadel, an art professor of University of Wisconsin - Madison, made perfect explanations for Cheng's new work.
