The Madison Alcohol License Review Committee will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 5:30 p.m. As detailed in its agenda (PDF), here are some of the new establishments seeking licenses and other key orders of business.
Jalapeño Mexican Grill, 1821 S. Park St., is back requesting a liquor license. This is a new restaurant serving tortas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, huaraches and the like.
VIP Restaurant, 6718 Odana Rd., a Chinese and Japanese restaurant, seeks a liquor license. Paper work filed with the city describes it as a "white table" restaurant and it expects to make just 7% of its revenue from alcohol sales. The anticipated opening date is Nov. 15. the owner also operates a Japanese restaurant called Sake House in Beaver Dam.
Sol's on the Square, a new Korean restaurant at 117 E. Mifflin is seeking a liquor license. The space, formerly Veritas, has a small bar within the seating area; documents state the business expects to get 25% of its income from alcohol, the rest from food sales.
Surco Peruvian at 515 Cottage Grove Road is applying for a liquor license. Earlier this summer after opening, operators were allowing patrons to bring in their own alcohol, with apparent misunderstanding of the city ordinance regulating this. However, neither the police nor the area's alderman have concerns about Surco gaining a liquor license. Documents filed with the city describe plans for a four to six seat full-service bar, along with table service.
The Brews Brothers Pub, described as an upscale beer pub serving 36 craft beers and 12 gourmet hamburgers, is applying for a license at 610 Junction Rd. -- 2,148 sq. ft in the City Centre Junction mall development. Anticipated opening date is the beginning of November. Seeking to attract high-end craft beer fans, the business expects to make 40% of revenue from beer sales, 60% from food. The owners currently operate another Brews Brothers Pub in Weston, Wisconsin, and hope to expand into other markets such as the Fox Valley and Stevens Point.
Other orders of business include altering the city code so that there is an ordinance that will address occupancy capacity violations, and modifying Section 38.10(4) to change the ordinance in order to clarify the process of when and how demerit points will be assessed and when point accumulation triggers suspension/revocation of a liquor license.
