The owners of Charley's Chocolates want to let their customers explore Wisconsin through chocolate. The owners import confections from Kattywompus Konfections in Denver, Wis., Baraboo Candy Company and Madison-based Tootskie's Toffee and Christine's Toffee, among others.
Phyllis Sanfilippo, a partner in Charley's, says that in the year the shop has been open, the selection has expanded to encompass more Wisconsin-made products: "Candy is part of the picture, but Wisconsin has so many other wonderful things that people don't know much about."
Jams, jellies and sauerkraut from Porchlight Products; Viroqua's Kickapoo Coffee; Potter's Crackers and Wisconsin-made cereals; pancake mixes; and cheeses line the shelves.
Five gift baskets feature Wisconsin-made products: Made in Madison, Door County Medley, A Wisconsin Grab Bag and The Pride of Wisconsin. A children's basket is also available.
Patrons can expect to find more locally produced items in the future, gathered by Sanfilippo and her husband in their travels through the state.
Charley's Homemade Fudge is made in-house, crafted by Sanfilippo's stepson, Gavin Langhammer. "His fudge is a real highlight and one of our hottest-moving items," she says.
