The recent floods have ebbed, but for many farmers in southern Wisconsin, the recovery is just beginning. How can you help?
The Willy Street Co-op, 1221 Williamson St., is collecting donations at the cash register. Half of the money goes to the Sow the Seeds Fund of the Minneapolis-based Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, which is organizing relief for flooded farmers in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The other half benefits the flooded Kickapoo Exchange Natural Foods Co-op in Gays Mills.
You also can give to Madison-based Family Farm Defenders, the advocacy group for family farmers. Visit www.familyfarmdefenders.org or call 260-0900 for more information on the group's flood-relief efforts.
