Pairdd
Pairdd has expanded its delivery of gluten-free meals to Madison.
Gluten-free diet. Want to do more cooking at home. No time to shop. These three elements can collide to create a complex daily eating situation.
Enter Pairdd, a Milwaukee-based gluten-free meal-delivery service that started last October. It's recently expanded its delivery to all of Wisconsin, including Madison.
The goal of the business was to address the "pain points" of those newly diagnosed with celiac disease or needing to go on a gluten-free diet, says cofounder Casey Lanto. People she consulted reported feeling "overwhelmed" doing grocery shopping when they suddenly needed to scrutinize every ingredient label.
Finding recipes was another reported pain point, as was food not tasting good. With Pairrd, the premeasured amounts of gluten-free ingredients for two servings of a meal arrive on the doorstep, with tested recipes able to be prepared in under 45 minutes.
Shipped via next-day FedEx or Spee-Dee Delivery, the recipe and ingredients come in insulated packaging with ice packs, so even salmon filets and vegetables arrive fresh. The meals range from healthy entrees like the salmon with a quinoa salad to "heartier, more indulgent" dishes like a Buffalo mac 'n' cheese, Lanto says.
"Eventually you can go on to make the meal yourself," explains Lanto, but subscribing to Pairrd for a while lets the home cook "build up a library" of dishes that work.
Lanto, a graduate of Alverno College, comes from a marketing background rather than the culinary arts, but Pairdd works with gluten-free chefs and food bloggers for recipes and sources local ingredients like RP's Pasta and Silly Yak bread.
A weekly subscription is $50 -- that's two different meals of two servings each. Featured recipes change weekly. Meals can also be ordered a la carte for $15 each, from several choices, if selected by midnight Sunday for Tuesday delivery.
Pairrd will accept four weeks' worth of its packing materials back for sanitizing and reuse upon request.
