Tres Amigos
Mexican redux
Tres Amigos has opened in the former Get Some Burritos, 309 N. Henry St. Tortas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas and a salad form the heart of the menu. The location has housed many eateries over the years, including Chinmi, a Japanese restaurant; several hot dog stands including Mad Dogs Chicago Style Eatery; and Red and White Hamburgers, a long-standing luncheonette that operated there from 1926 to 1985.
Everly, 2701 Monroe St., is now open in part of the former Bluephies space. The California cuisine-inspired menu is divided into vegetables (most roasted, some fried), “things on toast,” salads, sandwiches, pasta and grains, small plates and big plates. It’s certainly one of the most vegetable-forward restaurants to open in Madison, with many vegetarian dishes in all the sectors of the menu. Miko Poké, a Hawaiian poke (raw fish bowls) takeout spot, which took over the rest of the Bluephie’s space, opened in late summer.
Try, try again
Five Star Korean Barbecue, 605 E. Washington Ave., is now open. The successor to Blair Street Barbecue opened briefly in late summer, was shuttered for a while, but as of late October has been open daily, 10 am-midnight Mon.-Sat. and 4 pm-midnight Sun. The restaurant specializes in Korean food, from kalbi (ribs) to soups. And yes, there is banchan, the small-plates/appetizers that are the essential sidelight to any Korean meal.
No more doggies
The Wiener Shop, the inventive frank-a-teria known for unconventional toppings on its weekly specials (Spaghetti-os and Goldfish crackers, anyone?) has closed. The small storefront at 447 W. Gilman St. has been cleared out.
