Opposites aren't always that different, according to ambient artist Heathered Pearls. His new album shows how contrary sensations can spring from the same source.
Opening track "The Worship Bell" explores the fine line between calming down and freaking out. Deep, undulating notes are so heavy that you'll think you're drowning until a bell-like melody pulls your thoughts to the surface. "Beach Shelter" begins with a sound that could be flowing water or a crackling fire. Clouds of dissonance grow loud, metallic and intensely ominous on "Precious Dive," but "Docile Touch" is the perfect antidote: wispy loops of melody that seem soft enough to touch.
