A self-described “old soul with a child’s glow,” Madison singer/songwriter Whitney Mann brought two new songs to a four-song March 25 acoustic set at the Isthmus office.
“Follow Me Down” is a “brand new-ish” composition that Mann says she has previously played only once. It keeps to the same highly personal style that has made her one of the most lauded musicians in the area.
But her final song of the set teases a new direction for Mann. It is a solo acoustic version of “Big Mouth Baby,” a tune by her new group, Love High. The throwback ’60s soul band’s first show is at the East Side Club on Aug. 27.
More immediately, Mann will join local musicians Emily Jane Powers, Hannah Luree and Annabel Lee in a benefit show for Domestic Abuse Intervention Services of Dane County (DAIS) on April 5 at the Frequency (4-8 pm). All money raised will go directly to DAIS to support survivors of domestic abuse.
