UP: Shirley Abrahamson. Wisconsin's dynamo chief justice this week celebrates 30 years on the state Supreme Court. This photo from September 1976 shows Abrahamson, the first female justice in the state's history, knocking on a men's room door. Abrahamson is also celebrating 50 years as a member of the state bar and 10 years as chief justice. And the 72-year-old plans to seek another 10-year term when her current one expires in 2009. Shirley, you don't jest.
DOWN: Madison-Kipp. The local die-casting company faces $123,000 in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, after federal investigators allegedly find numerous workplace safety violations. Among other problems, OSHA faulted the company for failing to guard a die-cast machine, which resulted in a worker's fingers being amputated. Madison-Kipp disputes these findings and says it will appeal.
