UP: Audrey Edmunds. The state Supreme Court decides to let stand a ruling that ordered a new trial for the former Waunakee day care provider, convicted in 1995 of shaking a baby to death. Edmunds was released in February after an appellate court ruled that new medical research on shaken baby syndrome cast doubt on her conviction. Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard now must decide whether to retry the case.
DOWN: Wisconsin. The state has the highest drunken-driving rate in the country, according to a recent report by the federal government. The report estimates that 25% of Wisconsin adults drove drunk in the past year, compared to a nationwide average of 15%. Remember the old state slogan, "You're Among Friends"? Maybe it should be, "You're Among People Who Drink and Drive."
