UP: Bo Ryan. The Badgers men's basketball coach is named the national coach of the year by a committee of sports writers, coaches, broadcasters and administrators. This season, the Badgers had a record 30 wins and were briefly ranked No. 1 in the nation, for the first time. Ryan has been with the Badgers for six years.
DOWN: Downtown bars. The state Supreme Court agrees to hear an appeal by UW-Madison students who are challenging a voluntary agreement the bars have with the city of Madison to no longer offer drink specials. The students say the ban is an illegal restraint of trade. Their lawsuit was initially dismissed by Dane County Judge Angela Bartell, and her decision was upheld by the Fourth District Court of Appeals. Bar owners say they've spent an estimated $450,000 on the lawsuit already.
