UP: Judicial Commission. Better late than never, the state's judicial watchdog files a complaint against new Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman over an ad he ran during last spring's race. The ad alleged that, as a public defender, incumbent Justice Louis Butler used a loophole to free a child molester, who went on to assault another child. In fact, the man was paroled. The commission says the ad was "made knowingly or with reckless disregard of the truth" and violated the state's code of judicial conduct. A panel chosen by the state's chief appeals judge will review the complaint.
DOWN: UW Band. The UW's marching band is barred from playing during the Badger home game against Ohio State. Band director Mike Leckrone suspended the band after reports of hazing involving inappropriate sexual conduct and alcohol. Leckrone is waiting for the results of an investigation before deciding whether the band can play at the Badgers' game against Penn State this weekend. The band was put on probation two years ago, when similar allegations were made about behavior during a road trip to Michigan.
