UP: Kelda Helen Roys. The former head of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin wins a hotly contested primary race for the 81st Assembly District. There is no Republican running, which means Roys will replace retiring Rep. Dave Travis (D-Waunakee). With 1,960 votes, Roys beats out five other contenders: Justin Sargent (1,683), John Laubmeier (1,001), Eric Englund (904), Tim Kiefer (410) and Peng Her (337). Roys pledges to change the divisive atmosphere of the Legislature and will "reach out and establish relationships with members across the aisle."
DOWN: Wisconsin voters. When the names of Government Accountability Board members were run through the state's new voter identification system, four of the six came up as a non-match. The system is supposed to verify voters' identities by cross-checking names with other state databases, but election officials say the system gets stuck on name variations, such as a missing middle initial. So far, checks on 19,500 voters have produced 4,000 misses.
