UP: Lorraine Cook. The 52-year-old Madison woman, jailed for two months on a warrant for probation violations after courageously coming forward to report that she was brutally raped, is released last Friday, a day after Isthmus reports on her case. Cook continues to vent concern over the fact that the man she accused of raping her has not been charged and remains free.
DOWN: Fred Mohs. The Madison landlord tries to bully the First United Methodist Church downtown into kicking the homeless out of the temporary shelter it operates in its basement. Mohs purportedly learned of the shelter, now in its third year, from reading the list of shelters that ran recently in Isthmus ("The Edge of Homelessness," 2/8/08). He tells the church that if it doesn't close the shelter, he'll no longer let members use his nearby ramp for free parking on Sundays. The church council unanimously decides to keep the shelter.
