UP: Mad City Ski Team. Madison's water-ski team wins its third national championship. The team, which practices and performs on Lake Monona, also won in 2004 and 2006. In this year's competition, Mad City scored 200 points more than the second-place finishers and swept the technical awards.
DOWN: Streetcars. Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz abandons his proposal to build a streetcar system, saying, "When you've dug yourself into a hole, the first thing you should do is drop the shovel." Cieslewicz will disband the study committee he set up to explore streetcars and will not press for streetcars to be included in a countywide Regional Transit Authority.
