UP: Madison golf courses. Last year, golfers spent more than $2.2 million at Madison's four public golf courses - Odana, Yahara, Glenway and Monona - leaving the program $250,205 in the black. Golfers played 86,124 rounds at the courses in 2009.
DOWN: Madison School District. The school district faces a $30 million budget deficit for the 2010-11 school year, which could force budget cuts and a property tax hike. Even with the maximum allowable tax hike, the district will still have a $1.2 million deficit.
