Wardrobe malfunction
I think it's interesting that Isthmus gets letters objecting to a hint of female nipples in an American Apparel ad, but not a word about the weekly quarter-page ad for Silk, "The Midwest's Only Las Vegas Style Gentlemen's Club" (Letters, 9/4/2014 and 9/11/2014). Though they carefully don't show nipples, the images in the Silk ads always feature a lot of skin, and beyond any doubt are sexual in a completely commercial way.
Are we talking about societal harm, or just being asked to line up behind a visceral reaction against certain perceived portrayals of sexuality? Is it because the American Apparel models look so young, while the Silk models/performers are seen as professionals?

It is a good thing that those who are complaining about the American Apparel ads do not live in Europe; otherwise they would have died from a heart attack. Society is far more liberal across the pond, such that bare-breasted women are available on the front covers of magazines and other printed material. We are far too repressed here in the States. Even Canada is more liberal than we are.

Dog's best friend
Katie Hilst showed up for me in the midst of a snowstorm when my old dog, Brownie, was injured ("Saying Goodbye to Furry Friends," 9/11/2014). I knew Brownie couldn't be fixed, but she was too big for me to get to a vet. Katie was such a gift to Brownie and me. Brownie's suffering was circumvented, and Katie was kind, caring and professional. Clearly she meets a need, and I hail her for taking on this task.
