The free local community newspaper, which publishes positive news stories about people of color, wins two awards from the National Newspaper Publishers Association - first place for photography and third place for layout and design. The paper beat out publications from bigger cities, including Los Angeles and New York.
DOWN: Freedom from Religion Foundation. The U.S. Supreme Court rules against the Madison-based group, deciding on a 5-4 vote that it lacks standing to sue the federal government over President Bush's faith-based initiative. The court said the group, which objected to the White House using federal money to fund religious organizations, failed to show it suffered specific harm from the policy.
