UP: Primate Freedom Project. Dane County Judge Sarah O'Brien upholds an earlier ruling allowing the Primate Freedom Project to buy land next door to two primate research labs on the UW campus. The judge orders the owner, Roger Charly, to transfer the property and reimburse the Freedom Project for $90,000 in legal costs. Charly tried to back out of selling them the land when the UW offered him more money. The Freedom Project plans to build a museum at the site detailing the laboratory abuses of primates.
DOWN: Sun Prairie. The city refuses to put up a 'deaf child' traffic sign near the home of one-year-old Natiya Ballard, who was born deaf. City officials say such signs are not always effective and could give Natiya's mother, Cary Murphy, a 'false sense of security.' Sun Prairie's city council will consider the matter next.
