UP: Wisconsin cheese makers. Cheese makers from around the state won 30 of the 82 categories in the World Championship Cheese Contest held at Monona Terrace last week. However, the top three awards were given to cheese makers from Europe. They probably know a little bit about cheese, too.
DOWN: Dan Nerad. The Madison school board gave its superintendent low marks on a performance evaluation (completed last month, but just made public), finding him barely "proficient." Later this month, the board is expected to vote on whether to extend Nerad's contract beyond June 2013. Board president James Howard says he isn't sure how he'll vote: "There's a lot of issues on the table in Madison. It's time to resolve them. All this kicking-the-can-down-the-road stuff has to stop."
