The GOP-controlled state government finally heeds Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi's order and halts implementation of Gov. Walker's "budget repair bill," which Sumi has blocked as a probable violation of the state's Open Meetings Law.
Dane County prosecutors file two felony and two misdemeanor charges against Katherine Windels, 26, of Cross Plains for allegedly sending threatening emails to GOP lawmakers. Windels told investigators she did not intend to follow through on the threats. She could face more charges over a subsequently discovered threatening email to Gov. Walker.
Former Gov. Patrick Lucey resigns as honorary campaign co-chair for Justice David Prosser, complaining that the judge has lost his "evenhanded impartiality." Lucey endorses Prosser's opponent, JoAnne Kloppenburg.

A woman on Madison's east side calls police after her sister sends an April Fool's Day prank text saying her husband had just hit her. "The woman who sent the text met the officers and was very apologetic about the unfortunate misunderstanding," police spokesman Joel DeSpain tells The Capital Times.
Fliers sporting the Madison Police logo and claiming a no-protest zone has been established around the Capitol are discovered downtown. Police say the fliers are fake.
