Madison Festivals Inc. announces that it is putting Rhythm & Booms, the annual July 4th fireworks festival, on indefinite hold after a poor fundraising effort.
Friday, Dec. 5
The state Department of Natural Resources closes the annual wolf hunt. It later reports that for the third year in a row, hunters have exceeded the statewide kill limit, this year killing four above the 150 ceiling.
Saturday, Dec. 6
Mary Burke, who lost her bid for governor last month, announces that she will seek reelection to the Madison School Board.
Sunday, Dec. 7
The UW Badgers football team gets a shot at redemption after losing the Big 10 championship with an invitation to the Outback Bowl, where the team will face Auburn.
Tuesday, Dec. 9
Gov. Walker's campaign reports that Walker is meeting in Las Vegas with Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino magnate and conservative donor.
Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and state Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler release a report arguing that the state's taxes are "too high and too complicated." It makes no recommendations.
Mayor Paul Soglin reports at a news conference that the city will have two nights of fireworks next July, one at Elver Park and another at Warner, to replace Rhythm & Booms.
