Roxanne Nava, 20, is tasered by a police officer at Memorial High School while fighting with a school staffer. Nava was trying to help her 17-year-old brother register for school, when police said the boy became "uncooperative" and tried to remove him. Three other members of Nava's family were also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when they tried to intervene.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency adds Dane County to the list of counties eligible for federal disaster relief. County residents who suffered flood damage in their homes or businesses can apply for up to $28,200 in aid.
George Socha Jr. and Joyce Baer donate 132 wooded acres in the town of Medina to Dane County for a public park.

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz announces he will support Madison Police Chief Noble Wray's request for 30 more officers in next year's budget. Wray had originally asked for only 18 new officers. If the Common Council approves funding, it will be the department's biggest increase in officers since 1989.

A father dropping his son off at Cherokee Middle School accidentally hits and kills Becky Sue Buchmann, 48, while pulling out into the street. Buchmann, an educational assistant at Cherokee, was walking toward the school when she was struck. No charges have been filed against the driver, who has not been publicly identified.
Paris Phipps, 22, is sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in the death of Alicia Hatzinger. In 2006, Phipps drove his cousin, Robert Phipps, to Hatzinger's Sun Prairie home, where Robert stabbed and bludgeoned her.
The Roman Catholic Foundation, a Catholic student group, sues the UW-Madison for denying it access to student fees, which it wants to use for religious activities, including Evangelical Catholic training camps and spiritual retreats. The UW says paying for such things would violate the separation of church and state.

Gov. Jim Doyle rejects a Republican proposal to split the budget, passing a school funding package while lawmakers continue to debate other budget items. Doyle says the state can't decide school funding without knowing how much other parts of the budget will cost. Wisconsin is the only state in the nation that has not yet passed a budget.
Alvin Sandness Jr., 69, of North Dakota, is killed when his van is struck from behind at the intersection of Cottage Grove and Dempsey roads. A 39-year-old Cambridge man is facing tentative charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
