State Patrol officers arrest state Rep. Jeff Wood, an Independent from Chippewa Falls, for suspicion of driving while intoxicated near Wausau. Wood was allegedly driving under the influence of prescription and nonprescription drugs. If convicted, it would be his fourth DWI offense. Wood voted in favor last week of a bill to make a fourth drunk-driving offense a felony.
TV and newspaper reporters rush to the scene of another violent gang shooting on Madison's south side. Fortunately for the victim - unfortunately for the media - it was only a BB gun, and the pellet hit, but did not break, a 12-year-old girl's skin. Gov. Jim Doyle taps Ray Wosepka as Dane County coroner, to serve out the term of John Stanley, who died Sept. 13. Wosepka held the position from 1988 until 2000.
Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) announces he won't run for governor, leaving Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton as the only declared Democratic candidate. Milwaukee Mayor Tom "Here I come to save the day" Barrett is still weighing his options.

Gov. Doyle creates a task force of ex-police detectives to find 4,000 felons who have finished their sentences but owe the state a DNA sample.
Thirteen children and their families replicate the outline of the International Space Station using plastic tape on soccer fields in Elver Park.
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announces plans for a Crisis Care Stabilization Center, which would include 12 beds for people at risk of psychiatric hospitalization.
Sunday, 9.27
Police arrest a 17-year-old boy for allegedly driving the wrong way on Highway 18-151 in Springdale while drunk, killing 28-year-old Mackenzie Reynolds. Reynolds' passenger, Jerry Kurt, 28, is flown to UW Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
In a scene reminiscent of Easy Rider, three people - two men and an infant - are slightly injured when a vehicle pulls up next to their car and an occupant fires a shotgun at them in Sun Prairie. Police later arrest 17-year-old Darren Clay for the shooting.
Monday, 9.28
Two restaurants in the campus area - Topper's Pizza and Jimmy John's - are both held up, one by a man holding scissors, the other by a man with a knife. It is the fifth such robbery since Saturday. Police think the robberies are related, noting that the robber is apologetic, explaining that he needs money for drugs.
Tuesday, 9.29
Jonathan Suckow, 27, is arrested for reckless endangerment after allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist near I-90 and the Beltline.
