Bob Rashid, circa 1980
Bob Rashid's sudden death last Thursday has stunned his family, friends and those who admired his work, including his contemporaries among Madison's leading photographers. Killed by an acute aortic dissection at age 59, he leaves a rich legacy of images. The portfolios preserved at Wisconsin's Rustic Roads and Gone Fishing, both published by the University of Wisconsin Press.
"Bob's death comes as a great shock," declares James Gill in an announcement at Madison Shooters, a online gathering place for local photographers. "Bob was an innovative and creative shooter. We have lost a good friend, a husband and partner, a mentor and more."
More tributes to Rashid have been posted here and here. Gill also notes the origin of the portrait published here.
A celebration of Rashid's life is scheduled for this Saturday, October 18, from 3-6 p.m. at the new Goodman Community Center, 149 Waubesa St.
