As Isthmus reported online, the Wisconsin State Journal axed a column by Doug Moe paying tribute to Cap Times writer Mike Miller, who accepted a buyout after 40 years of service. The reason was not officially explained, but likely owed to concerns that other recently departed employees who were not similarly feted might feel slighted.
Still, both Miller and Moe were purportedly told that this column would still be posted online, after Cap Times emeritus editor toasted Miller in print last Wednesday. That didn't happen, and apparently it never will.
Moe directs questions to Cap Times managing editor Chris Murphy, who offers this diplomatic explanation: "We think the world of Mike Miller and Dave Zwiefel's column said what we wanted to say."
In other words, it appears as though the column has stayed spiked not because the State Journal would not allow it to run but because the Cap Times, for whatever reason, decided not to run it.
