Congratulations to The Madison Times and its staff. The National Newspaper Publishers Association has awarded the local weekly two merit awards, including first place for best use of photographs and third place for best layout and design. Announced at the NNPA's summer conference last weekend in Seattle, the awards are the third and fourth bestowed on the Times, which began publication 16 years ago.
The Times was up against more than 200 other minority-owned newspapers from across the U.S., including the Los Angeles Sentinel, Philadelphia Tribune, Seattle Medium and other members of the NNPA -- a federation also known as the Black Press of America.
This year's awards recognized excellence in 21 categories.
