Politicians, employers and educators regularly talk about the so-called job skills gap stifling job growth in Wisconsin. But what is the job skills gap, and why aren’t we fixing it? As Steven Potter reported in last week’s Isthmus, policymakers don’t understand the skills that employees need to be successful. In a new study, UW researcher Matthew Hora found that there’s confusion about what employers are looking for, and the debate has become deeply politicized.
