Along with Ohio, Wisconsin was one of the states that put Obama over the 270 threshold in the Electoral College. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel showed the president winning counties throughout southern Wisconsin, along with Milwaukee, Kenosha, Door and seven counties in northern Wisconsin. Tammy Baldwin was also a solid winner in Dane County in her bid for the U.S. Senate. Unofficial results had her with over 68% of the local vote to former Gov. Tommy Thompson's 30%. Statewide, Baldwin was winning about 51% of the vote to Thompson's 47%.
As CNN projected Barack Obama had won his second term as president Tuesday night, a 30-something dude belted out Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Have you Ever Seen the Rain," accompanied by the Gomers at a poll-watching party at the High Noon Saloon on Madison's east side. A tall man with long, gray hair wearing only a thong and stiletto high heel shoes walked out.
Compared to four years ago, when Isthmus sponsored a nearly identical event, the High Noon crowd was pleased, but relatively subdued. Meanwhile, reports from the official state Democratic party celebration at Monona Terrace a few blocks to the west, suggested that Democrats feel relief and vindication after two years of repeated losses in statewide elections. While many celebrated, honking horns and hooting into the night, many others quietly returned home.

Unofficial results from Dane County gave Obama a solid victory with more than 213,000 votes to Romney's 83,000-or over 70% of the electorate. If those percentages hold, it's a slight dip in the president's victory margin from 2008, when he won 72% of the vote.

Mark Pocan was winning 71% of Dane County and 67% of the second Congressional district.
Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential nominee, can take comfort in having held onto his Congressional seat. He was comfortably leading Democrat Rob Zerban with 56% of the vote.
