At The Business Forum's 2009 ATHENA Young Professional Award event Wednesday night, friends and supporters honored the seven nominees and enjoyed an evening of networking. The reception ended with a short program in which Valentina "Tina" Ahedo was named the second recipient of Dane County's ATHENA Young Professional Award.
Tina is a Program Coordinator at Madison Area Technical College (MATC) responsible for designing initiatives that help the college attract and retain diverse populations. Through her efforts, MATC received the 2008 Equity Award from the Association of Community College Trustees Central Region. Tina and her children are active volunteers in the community, serving meals at local food pantries and working with Habitat for Humanity. Accepting the award, Tina attributed her success to "the best teachers, mentors and friends who have inspired, taught and challenged me to do my very best."
