Early last week, we learned that 15 residents of an Allied Drive apartment complex were being told they had to move by the end of the year so the new owner could make improvements to the troubled property.
In response to a community outcry, the mayor's office announced it would provide $4,500 to assist the displaced residents.
At noon on Monday, the mayor will meet with "local officials" regarding Allied Drive. Wonder what they'll discuss. Let's hope it's some strategies meant to help the working families who have found their way to Allied due to its inexpensive housing and month-to-month leases who now appear to be at risk of being thrown out at any time.
The challenge isn't just cleaning up Allied, it's cleaning it up without adding even more obstacles to the lives of our city's most disadvantaged residents.
