Last week in this space, I wondered why Mayor Dave Cieslewicz would make such a big deal out of going to see The Blueheels, identified as a band from Neenah on its MySpace page. Well, first the mayor sent word (via regular reader and contributor of the bulk of and only accurate information on the "Weekly Whereabouts" George Twigg) that these Blueheels lads are actually a Madison band and only their lead singer, Robby Schiller, resides there.
Not one hour later, Justin Bricco of The Blueheels sent in an email of his own, making sure to point out that not only is his band a proud Madison institution, but one that promises to be around for a long time. The term "permanence" was used, along with a lot of unintelligible stuff about atmospheric turbulence and a claim that the band's native Neenah is the "rock-n-roll capital of the world." Bricco, it seems, has plenty of free time during the day.
Further bolstering the claim that they are now, or will soon be, a Madison fixture, TDP's own Madison music maven, Kiki Schueler, reviewed Friday night's show at Café Montmartre. She proclaimed it "raucous, glorious, and maybe a bit drunken," which is good enough for me.
