Like pretty much every elected official from sea to shining sea, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's schedule this week revolves around Martin Luther King Jr. Day observances and the galaxy of festivities surrounding the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama.
Up first on Monday are a series of official events marking the federal holiday honoring Dr. King, including state tribute in the Capitol rotunda and the city celebration at the Overture Center. The mayor returns to a more regular itinerary of meetings on Tuesday, but his calendar does include a block for Obama's swearing-in ceremony during the Inauguration. No word on where he will be watching it, but a safe guess is at the King Coalition Community celebration at Monona Terrace.
There aren't any other Madison inauguration parties on Mayor Dave's schedule, perhaps not a surprise given the Common Council meeting that night and an early start the next morning. But it's not like this kind of historic event comes around all that often, so perhaps he'd be wise to join in the festivities somewhere, unofficially-speaking.
