Baseball fans will recognize the name of George Petak, slated to meet with Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz at 1:30 on Thursday. Petak, formerly a Republican senator from Racine, swore in 1995 that he wouldn't support a plan to build Miller Park that created a special tax district including his district.
And of course he did just that, earning a recall for his effort. He currently works as a lobbyist for Whyte Hirschboek Dudek, on behalf of "bottled water interests, cemetery concerns, electric power generators, gaming interests, healthcare providers, and in the area of energy conservation."
Many feel, however, that the Milwaukee Brewers would not have been able to assemble the current National League Central-leading team it has without a modern stadium like Miller Park. If the Crew makes it to the World Series this year, someone should make sure Petak has a good seat for all the home games, if nothing else.
