At what point will these public safety listening sessions become repetitive? Monday night, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz will attend one for west side Districts 1 and 7, which border District 20, home to not only a listening session, but also a police response session.
Other sessions have been held in other parts of town with similar themes: Criminal activity appears to be up and citizens are looking to the city for help. The District 20 sessions have received the most attention due to capacity crowds and horror stories reported by residents of traditionally sedate neighborhoods. The guess here is that Monday's will be more of the same.
Points have been scored by Dist. 20 Ald. Thuy Pham-Remmele, a council rookie who simply succeeded in getting residents and cops (and television cameras) into the same room, is now seen as a can-do member of the council. Perhaps Alds. Zach Brandon (Dist. 7) and Jed Sanborn (Dist. 1), two of the council's fiscal conservatives, are hoping to attract some of the same mojo with Monday's session.
